Re: Warrior Ceremonies - New Deputy
Bronzepaw looked at the she-cat before him, feeling insulted. We're practically the same age! I'm old enough to be a warrior myself! His amber eyes narrowed at her but he stepped forward to touch noses.
OOC: He was made a warrior late, along with his brother and sister.

Nearly, Hollowstripe's jaw could have dropped to the ground in amazement, already a mentor?! All that was left on her face was a mere blank expression of amazement . But she caught herself and gave a cool look to her clanmates as she as well touched noses with brownpaw.

OOC: Meany, you had to play to brown toms who so happen to be apprentices; one's called Bronze, the other Brown... Tsk, tsk, tsk.
IC: Redstar, satisfied, snaked his way up to the top of the Gray Rock once more.
Longfur looked at the cats around him, whispering, "He's going to appoint a deputy! I know he is!"
Goldpaw stood on his hind legs, anxious to hear.
Redstar began to speak. "Darkclan - my kin, my friends - I have wronged you all." The crowd murmured nervously at that. "For too long have I put off what Starclan has set as law; the appointing of a deputy."

Re: Warrior Ceremonies - New Deputy
Frostshine, who had come out of the Healer's den earlier (he was trying to figure out what herbs did what), looked at the Gray Rock in anticipation.
"Apologizing," Frostshine overheard Sleetcoat whispering to Rainfoot, "A good ploy. The Clan will be more accepting of him, maybe more than the new deputy."
"Which would have happened if he hadn't, right? Because he'd still look stupid?" Rainfoot had whispered this, fully recovered of his injuries.
Sleetcoat nodded.
Jaycall, near the middle of the crowd, was put off by the fact that Bronzepaw received a mentor, and not a warrior name. Bronzepaw had to be one of the best talkers in the Clan, his silver tongue could get himself out of anything. Our Clan is obsessed with battle prowess - Redstar has reinforced that so. Appointing such an inexperienced warrior as a mentor over the better is a bad move on his part. She will hold my brother back. He shook his head, noting Redstar's diplomatic move. Silverpaw must be proud of that, he thought wryly. The she-cat wasn't nearly as silver-tongued as her brother, but her intelligence held it's own.

OOC: Runny, you jerk, get it over with... And stop reading fanfics - don't deny it, I know you are. Your style changes when you do.
IC: Silverpaw noted the diplomacy in Redstar's speech, her eyes narrowing. Good move...
Sunmist nudged Gorseclaw; she would be chosen. She just knew it. Who else? Who else had organized patrols, had maintained the Clan's sanity. She had, and now was her time.
Gorseclaw looked at his sister, nudging back. Though he'd never voiced it (like most things) he wasn't too sure that his litter-mate would be the best choice.
No one could dispute the fact that she cared for the Clan, never. But maybe she cared a bit too much. That was a terrible flaw of her character. She might see the forest destroyed for her Clan, Gorseclaw's thoughts flashed back to how ferociously she had defended a wounded apprentice against an enemy patrol so long ago - so long that Sunmist herself didn't remember. But Gorseclaw, having a memory set for learning, did.
She must never be deputy, the thought dawned on him. A great sadness crashed down on him as it did; it was her dream, what she had been living for for the past many moons.
But here they were.

OOC: 'blah blah blah' You're one to talk - look at the size of that post! I had to edit my own, necromancer.
IC: Redstar looked over the crowd and called, "I say this before the spirits of Starclan that they may hear and approve of my choice;" He paused as Thornstar had when he'd named Redfall (at the time). "Hollowstripe will be the new deputy of Darkclan. By the will of Starclan," he more murmured that last part, but Longfur caught it. As Redstar jumped off of the Gray Rock, he mewed, "This meeting is over."
"By the will of Starclan?," mewed Longfur quietly to his leader. "Starclan came to you, eh?"
Goldpaw's jaw dropped - She's the same age as me! Whoa! "Hollowstripe, Hollowstripe," he yowled enthusiastically.
OOC: I think she'll get the most support from the apprentices and younger warriors, as Sunmist was the favorite for the role. No hard feelings, LS.

Re: Warrior Ceremonies - New Deputy
Hollowstripe walked away from the Gray Rock, eyes wide in complete and utter shock. She was the deputy! But how was i different from all the other warriors?! she thought, they have so much more experience.
She felt as if the whole clan's eyes rested on her pelt, heaving her down in a way she couldn't describe to herself. Slowly, she padded towards the other apprentices, instead of the other warriors, " I can't believe this" she mewed as if out of breath " Starclan chose me?!"
Sorestare hastily padded towards Gorseclaw and Sunmist, confused why the leader would choose an 'apprentice'
" I say Redstar has got birds in his brain, giving a KIT the role of deputy!" He spat softly to them. " We all know that you would have been a better choice" flicking his ear to Sunmist.

Re: Warrior Ceremonies - New Deputy
Sunmist's ears had drooped, her mouth dropping in shock. But that's...
Gorseclaw, on the other hand, hissed what he knew to be a sigh of relief. Alright, then.
The orange-flecked she-cat snapped back to attention, hissing to her brother, "We both know who deserved it - " she was interpreting his hiss as a sign of unhappiness, "And Darkclan will be sore for it's poor choice." Sunmist's eyes narrowed at Redstar as he padded past, her claws scraping the tough earth beneath her paws. When Sorestare had given his condolences, she'd nodded curtly. "Thank you, Sorestare; but I'm afraid anyone would have been better that the kit." She shook her head almost sadly then padded away, beckoning for her brother to follow.
Naturally, he did.
Silverpaw wound around Hollowstripe, mewing in shock,
"I've never heard of someone our age becoming deputy so soon - and there's nothing that can dispute your right! You're a warrior, you have an apprentice, it was before the eyes of Starclan-" she sat down, thoughts racing. Silverpaw fixed her blue gaze on the dark brown she-cat before her and dipped her head.

Re: Warrior Ceremonies - New Deputy
Cloudfeet, one of the younger warriors, strode up to Flowerfoot and Hollowstripe.
"Heeey, congratulations you two," he had called their names with everyone else. He turned to Hollowstripe and mewed, "Warrior, mentor, and deputy all in one ceremony? Starclan above, that's huge." The gray warrior said all this with a smirk - he was using to cover up the fact he was as shocked as everyone else.
Smokepelt, from across the clearing, narrowed his eyes. He did feel disappointed, but he knew Flowerfoot wouldn't be made deputy. Her other passions clouded her ambition and sense of protection, therefore making her a least-likely candidate. Let's hope Hollowstripe fits the bill. He didn't bother to go up and congratulate her - he needed to get on patrol.
Lightningpelt bounded up to her former apprentice, touching her nose to Hollowstripe's ear affectionately.
"I knew you were meant for great things - I just didn't think it would be so soon." The yellow she-cat took a step back and dipped her head respectively. When she looked up again, she whispered, "Don't worry. You'll learn. And in time, you will prove yourself."
Bronzepaw looked at Hollowstripe - now his mentor, but moreso his deputy - with a strange thought. He felt the desire to prove himself, to remain at the upper hierarchy's side (OOC: Here meaning all cats of power). For whatever end, was the echoing thought in his mind.
He wouldn't be an apprentice for very long. No, not very long at all.

Re: Warrior Ceremonies - New Deputy
Hollowstripe began to feel more comfortable around the apprentices, all that they said was true. " thanks guys" she purred happily, as she stopped slouching, " Your right" she turned to Lightningpelt, " I will prove myself soon enough"
She felt a tad bit of akwardness seep through her pelt, but she just slightly shook her head, leaving the thought of the difficultys of this role and the other concerns that bounced in her mind, " I say we take a patrol on the Dewclan border" she said with confidence, there wasn't a patrol there since yesterday, " brownpaw your coming with me, who else?"

Bronzepaw (OOC: I don't mind) kept his ears from flattening. He mewed cooly, "Yes. You should probably know that Sunmist is leading her own patrol to the Tawnyclan border. If we start from South, we'll meet up with them in the middle. If," he was still mewing nonchalantly, "that's what you decide to do."
Cloudfeet's ears pricked up. "Mind if I tag along, deputy," he mewed in a friendly way.
OOC: Before she goes, Redstar will most likely want to speak with her...

" perfect!" Hollowstripe gestured with her tail in welcome, " and when we join the other patrol, we could hunt," she was looking at the fresh kill pile while saying that. It was just a little smaller then usual, double tasking would be good at this time of newleaf.
OOC: okay, that's fine.

Re: Warrior Ceremonies - New Deputy
From his den beneath a smaller, yet still large rock seated next to the Gray Rock, Redstar looked out at his Clan. He'd needed a moment after doing all that he had during the ceremonies. It'd made him feel like an ordinary warrior, terribly out of place atop the Gray Rock.
I just hope I did the right thing... He watched Hollowstripe interact with the other apprentices and younger warriors. Redstar was afraid that it would be some time before the older warriors would even consider accepting her in her position.
"Hollowstripe," he impulsively called out to her. "Come here."
Goldpaw looked over at the lichen-covered den and nudged Hollowstripe - he regretted it an instant later, his fur burning.
"L-looks like Redstar wants to see you." He licked his chest fur to hide his discomfort.

Hollowstripe turned to her leader in an instant, padding quickly until she was right in front of the stone Redstar sat on. " What do you need Redstar?" she asked, Fur laid flat and still glowing.

IC: Redstar nodded to her and mewed, "Tell me, Hollowstripe. What do you hope to achieve as my deputy."
The red tom settled himself, his tail shifting slightly.

OOC: lol oh well
IC: Hollowpaw's eyes widened just slightly, She never thought of it before. But after a few heartbeats of silence, she replied to her leader " I only want to prove to the other clans that we are strong," she began " That our clan will always be, without proving with tooth or claw. But if we have no choice to, we must, even if that means risking my own life to protect my clanmates."
Her gaze narrowed as she sat down, tail covering her paws

OOC: Demoting ourselves, are we, HollowPAW? lol
IC: Redstar nodded slowly. "A wise answer," he mewed. "But there must be more in your mind than the expected alone." He did trust that she believed in every word she was saying, and that she would do her very best to follow through with her declarations - but the relationship between leader and deputy was crucial, so Redstar wanted to get to know Hollowstripe a little better. More than her basic history, for example. "I understand you never knew your parents."
OOC: Is it okay if Redstar knew them? If they were Darkclan, then it would make sense.

IC: Hollowstripe flinched just barely to her leaders words, But kept still " Thats right, I heard they were great warriors" she purred, remembering what the queens told her a while ago. How she wanted to meet them. " By chance, do you know how they.. passed away?" she asked, shuffling her paws slightly.

Re: Warrior Ceremonies - New Deputy
OOC: I'm gonna make up names and appearances real quick...
IC: Redstar thought a moment then nodded. "Yes. I remember. It was about a few sun-rises before I led half of the Clan away... We had been out on patrol." He sighed. "A storm set in suddenly, a mix of snow, rain and the worst winds - something the Clans in the lower lands never have. Everything was dark. We couldn't keep a single scent for more than a few moments. We - your parents, and Spottedcoat and Yellowface and myself - we tried to make our way back to camp. Back to here," he gestured to the their home with a wave of his tail. "But somehow we'd taken a wrong turn..."
Redstar's thoughts returned to that day;
OOC: He's telling the story in a way shorter form, but we're seeing it when it happened.
"Spottedcoat," Redfall yowled to the tortishell tom ahead of him, "can you smell anything!" His words were nearly stolen by the howling wind.
"Nothing, Redfall! There's nothing!"
A fluffy, jet black she-cat in the back with dark green eyes yowled, "This storm is from the Dark Forest itself!"
A tall, spindly tom with dark stripes and grey eyes next to her pressed his pelt to hers. "It'll be okay, Blacklight."
Blacklight nodded. "I hope so, Runningleap. I just hope Hollowkit isn't missing me too terribly."
Redfall's ears flattened at their exchange - he shouldn't have heard that. It was for them, and them alone. The group slogged through the freezing muck that had accumulated - the white she-cat with them suddenly slipped. They had been padding along one of the thin mountain paths - but not one they knew.
"Yellowface," shrieked Spottedcoat as the she-cat fell to her death. The tom tensed to leap after her but was stopped by Runningleap.
"Don't be a fool, Spottedcoat! It's not worth your life!"
"Yellowface," the tom yowled in anguish. "Oh, Yellowface! Oh, no!"
Redfall went up to the tom, his whiskers heavy with ice. "She would want you to go on! All of us! Her death would be worthless if you let Lightningpaw and Smokepaw become warriors without you there!"
The tom stayed where he was, allowing ice to grow thick in his pelt. But finally, he nodded. "She'd want me to live on," he mewed forlornly, padding after the group.
Redfall nodded. "I am so, so sorry for your loss."
Time seemed to stand still as the group padded along that path. They couldn't stop - there was no place to take shelter. If they were to stand still for too long their paws would freeze to the very ground they stood upon. Or worse they would fall asleep, never to wake again. Redfall stayed to Spottedcoat's side, making sure he did not waver from the path they were on while Blacklight and Runningleap matched each other, step for step. The cats literally had to be nose-to-flank, as they could barely see and would lose each other quickly if not for contact.
"Perhaps we have chosen the worst path, Redfall?" Blacklight's hoarse voice came with the wind.
"I could go ahead, Redfall," suggested Runningleap. "I'm the fastest and most sure-footed of us all - I'd be there and back in seconds!"
Redfall turned around, getting close enough to count the strands of fur around the tom's dark eyes. "Are you certain?"
The tom nodded enthusiastically - or maybe it looked like it because he was trying to rid his ruff of ice. "I'm certain."
Redfall looked at him a long moment then nodded. "Be swift, Runningleap!"
The long-limbed tom dipped his head and took off, placing his paws just so, his claws unsheathed for the best grip. It was true - he was the best at traveling over this sort of terrain out of the entire Clan.
"Starclan be with you," was Redfall's final yowl.
The group slowly inched forward, Blacklight watching the veil of snow anxiously. It seemed to last forever, the deafening silence, but finally;
"I think I can see something! I think - Starclan save us - Run! Run for your lives! Ru - !" The terrified yowl was cut off by a terrible roar. The whiteness of the mountainside was much closer than it ever should have been. The three remaining warriors knew exactly what it meant.
"Avalanche!!!" The three turned to the edge of the path (safety be damned) and leaped into the unknown.
Redfall yowled in terror, his eyes shut and ears flattened against the the thunderous roar of the very earth being upturned. His claws felt like they were torn from his paws as he fell.
Redfall brought his story around.
"I came to draped across the branches of one of the tall pines that line the mountain passes. Your mother, Blacklight, was a few branches beneath me. She seemed to be alright - Spottedcoat as well, having only a twisted paw and a few scratches. We'd started on the BloodStone border," he shook his head, "but we found ourselves almost to the Frost Forests that morning. We went back to camp... Your mother visited you. Wouldn't leave your side." He looked at his deputy, ears pricked slightly, curious to see if she remembered. "She started coughing that night. We didn't think too much of it - Silvernose was out. His apprentice, Tanpaw - yeah, Mistlight was training to be a warrior at the time - gave her herbs. But when Silvernose returned he told us. She was bleeding inside. The entire walk home she'd been dying. She just wanted to see you."
Redstar shifted his paws. "She died the next day." Redstar's ears flicked, his tail twitching. "Your parents were great warriors. I doubt anyone today can match their bravery, honor, or love, which is why they're buried at the top of the Star Sky-Claw." Star Sky-Claw, as the cats of Darkclan knew, was the name of the mountain-top that was the most beautiful in the starlight and sunlight.
The leader of Darkclan fell silent.
OOC: Sorry for letting that go so long... It's fun to make cool histories like LS does. Btw, after the patrols (or after you've made the topic) we're going to the Gathering.
IC: Redstar thought a moment then nodded. "Yes. I remember. It was about a few sun-rises before I led half of the Clan away... We had been out on patrol." He sighed.
The group slowly inched forward, Blacklight watching the veil of snow anxiously. It seemed to last forever, the deafening silence, but finally;

Re: Warrior Ceremonies - New Deputy
Hollowstripe's eyes widened, Just remembering the sweet scent of her mother that flooded over her. She looked at Redstar and kneeled her head in appreciation, " I hope their proud of me" She purred under her breath, keeping her eyes fixed on the leader. Until now, she began to feel proud of her kin, Knowing they were great warriors of darkclan.
Still keeping the thoughts of her parents in her head, She raised her head and turned to the area she came in from, " I should leave for the patrol now" She thought out loud.

Redstar's ears flicked. Funny how the tables turned. He nodded.
"Yes, that's best - but when you return, I'd like your opinion on who will be attending the Gathering tonight. Off with you, then." His whiskers twitched in a friendly style.

OOC: Great - *runs to make leaving topic*
IC: Redstar turned back into his den - which sounds slightly horror story when you read the sentence with too much depth and understanding, but I didn't want to post a one-liner and an OOC, but look; it is.
