Border Patrol

[Longstorm]

Sunmist, Gorseclaw, Silverpaw, Lightningpaw and Hollowpaw, were all patrolling the North-west border of their territory. It wasn't often they came this way - in fact, it wasn't often they had a patrol at all! The lack of a deputy had begun to take it's toll on the Clan, warriors just sitting around, waiting for something to happen.
Then Sunmist stepped in.
She'd marched up to the exit of the Clan and yowled,
"Hey, everyone! Meeting!" They'd all gathered and she organized three patrols - hunting, South-west border, and North-east border patrols.
And here they were.
"Redstar needs to get his head out of the Stars and focus on his Clan," Sunmist snarled as they padded along. She'd been muttering to herself the whole way, cursing their new leader with every pawstep she took.

Gorseclaw, her brother, didn't roll his eyes as usual. He agreed with her.
"Indeed. Redstar has been neglecting his duties as a leader. It's funny... He seemed diligent as a deputy."

Sunmist nodded.
"Yeah - maybe he should have stayed deputy - or stepped down." She shook her head. "Something's gotta give."

Silverpaw glanced over at Hollowpaw, a worried look on her face. Should they, the apprentices, say something?

Strolling just next to the patrol, Hollowpaw gave Silverpaw a partly concerned gaze, " Just give him time, i'm sure he'll act like a leader soon enough" she mewed in a confident tone.

Lightingpelt looked over at the siblings.
It would seem that Redstar is bordering on incompetence... She murmured to Hollowpaw, "We can pray. A leader's first moon is what defines him. From what I've heard from our Frost-fellows, Redstar's been a little on and off since he received his nine lives." The she-cat shrugged and marked the faint border. She opened her mouth and scented a few squirrels. "You can hunt if you like," she told Hollowpaw.

Hollowpaw turned in the direction where the prey scent was strong and walked away, with not another word.
Just behind a bramble bush, was a squirrel that was vulnerable on the forest floor. As she was taught, she went into a hunting crouch, making sure her scent was upwind from the prey. Just before it even had the chance to run, Hollowpaw leaped onto the squirrel, finishing it with a neck-crunching bite.

after kicking dirt onto her kill, she walked back with a smooth look on her face, " Silverpaw? What do you think about Redstar?" she asked.

Silverpaw shrugged.
"I dunno - I mean, Redstar was going on strong as deputy... And I guess he was doing okay after he became leader and Mistpaw became Mistlight," Silverpaw was going on automatic, focusing more on the borders that Hollowpaw. She paused, really thinking about what the she-cat was saying. "Maybe he thinks he isn't good enough, since he let her and three others slip away into the night?"

Sunmist glanced over her shoulder at her half-sister but said nothing.

Gorseclaw glanced back as well, but spoke:
"Hollowpaw, that was a good catch - how's her training coming along," he asked Lightingpelt.


OOC: Runny is saying that Hollowpaw and Flowerpaw are old enough to become Warriors, but after assessment.

The she-cat looked over at her apprentice, a pleased smirk forming on her lips.
"A fine fighter and a swift hunter." She leaned towards her and quietly mewed, "I'll speak to Redstar about having your assessment - if you think you're ready, that is." A gleam of amusement was in her eyes.

OOC: I don't play on her often enough to have a handle on my cats... But I know this she-cat is mildly mischievous and fiercely loves her Clan and friends.

OOC: I feel like I'm Hollowpaw

IC: The aprentice's tail swished in excitement as her eyes gleamed at her mentor " I'd say I'm ready!" she purred with amusement. But with all the excitement rushing through her mind, she nearly forgot about Silverpaw, " what about Silverpaw?" Hollowpaw asked quickly after, glancing over to the she-cat.

Gorseclaw was about to answer, but Silverpaw beat him to it.
"Silly," she purred, "I'm too young! I only started training a moon ago!" She whispered, "But I'll be a warrior real soon, and then we can see who can hunt the best - as warriors!"

Gorseclaw looked down on his half-sister, a feeling of pride glimmering somewhere in his being.
She's definitely Thornstar's daughter... Reserved, but ambitious all the same. There's a lot of Blueblossom there as well.

"She's right," Sunmist mewed. "She's about the right age, but she lacks the experience... Made a apprentice later than she should have been." By Redstar, duh...

Hollowpaw smirked with confidence to Silverpaw. "Of course! I'll be looking forward to that" and she brushed her fur against hers.

[Runfast]

Blizzardgaze suddenly burst out of the bushes, a squirrel in her jaws. She looked around at the group, the sounds of other cats in the distance. She dropped the squirrel and mewed,
"Hello! Sorry - didn't notice your scent.. I was too busy killing the squirrel." She proceeded to bury it. Blizzardgaze spotted Sunmist and dipped her head. "Sunmist - thanks for setting up the patrols this morning."
