Finding Silverfur
Longflight padded into the healer's den.
"Silverfur," he mewed softly, his voice echoing slightly. He looked around the dim lit den, noticing the herbs neatly stored away.
Longflight remembered when he'd been just an apprentice and he'd had a nice, long thorn in his back paw.
"Aaagh, it hurts," wailed the young, cream-colored apprentice.
"Oh, shut up," snapped the silver healer, his blue eyes sparking in annoyance. "You'd think a badger had ripped off your entire leg from the way your crying. So you're a kit again, eh?"
Longpaw ducked his head, his pelt burning in embaressment.
"But it does hurt!"
Silverfur shook his head, turning to Tanpaw and mewed,
"That poultice finished?" The apprentice nodded, spitting it out on a large, clean leaf. "It's ready, Silverfur," mewed the pale brown tom. He looked at Longpaw, his whiskers twitching at the younger tom.
Longpaw looked away - well, maybe he was overreacting...
Silverfur mewed,
"Hold still," as he grasped the apprentice's back leg. Longpaw winced, ready for the pain. When none came, he relaxed and mewed,
"Aren't you going to- AAAAGH!" Silverfur spat out the thorn, stifling an exasperated hiss.
"You'll be fine. Just let the poultice," the one Tanpaw was applying, "dry for today. You should be fit for training tomorrow morning." Longpaw nodded, sighing softly. He stood and mewed,
"Thanks, Silverfur... old coot," he muttered the last words.
As far as he could tell, the Healer hadn't heard him. So Longpaw continued to the exit. When he was halfway out, he could just make out Silverfur's muffled voice from between herbs in his mouth.
"Anytime, whiner." Longpaw turned around and saw kindness in those wise eyes. Longpaw smiled, nodded, and left.
Brought back to the present, Longflight walked further into the large den.
Tanpaw had been killed by a fox when he was out gathering herbs. This happened before Longflight became a warrior. It wasn't until some time later that Silverfur took a new apprentice.
"Old coot? You here?" No reply. There was something... Strange. Something strange in the air. It was masked by the heavy scent of herbs and poultices, but it was there, and dangerously familiar.
He turned the corner into Silverfur's sleeping corner and saw...

Re: Finding Silverfur
In between his nest and a poultice he'd been mixing, lay Silverfur. He was in a comfortable position, his legs tucked underneath him, his chin set atop his front paws.
His blue, wise eyes stared straight at Longflight. But upon closer inspection, Silverfur was looking at nothing, nor would he ever see anything again.
One Sun Shift Earlier...
Silverfur, in his den, was mixing a poultice. He'd never seen a cat bleed from the mouth before, as Thornstar had been. What was happening.
"Starclan," he whispered after spitting out the poultice, "have I done something wrong?" He shuffled to reach some poppy seeds he'd gathered up, crushing them into the poultice as well. Along with the poultice for Thornstar, he'd mixed together many poultices for possible puncture wounds that the crazed leader might inflict.
Suddenly, Silverfur stopped, staring at the entrance to his den.
"Q-Quartzfur," he gasped. He stopped, his ears pricked forward.
Silverfur nodded, taking a deep breath.
"Seasons upon seasons." Since you died, he thought. He took another deep breath and winced, the air in his lungs causing pain somehow. "...It's time, isn't it."
Silverfur could feel his aged body growing weaker, and he staggered slightly. He slowly lay down, resting his chin on his paws.
Silverfur looked straight ahead.
"Will Starclan still welcome me," he whispered. He seemed to be listening.
After a few moments, he smiled, a hoarse purr coming from his chest. He took one more deep breath and sighed his last.
In present...
Strangely enough, Silverfur had laid out healing poultices, and lavender with other sweet-smelling herbs were laid out as well.
Burial herbs.

Re: Finding Silverfur
OOC: Boohoo, BOOHHOHOHOHOHOHO.....
IC: Longflight looked down at his friend, sadness crashing down on his flinty heart. First his cousin, then his apprentice, now his best friend?
The pale cream tom shook his head, his paws dragging as he drew closer to his dead friend.
"Run with Starclan, Silverfur," he whispered, resting his chin on the healer's back for a moment.
(OOC: This friendship didn't exist until two posts ago...LOL) He hoisted the dead healer onto his back, carrying him out into the clearing.
OOC: That ends this topic.
