The Darkest Plan, the Brightest Intentions Empty The Darkest Plan, the Brightest Intentions

Mistpaw and Shadowspot stopped just outside of the medicine cat's den. As the warrior opened his mouth to speak, Mistpaw spoke for him.
"He's dead, isn't he." Her voice was soft and filled with grief.
Shadowspot nodded.
The she-cat looked up at the taller cat and mewed, "But there's more to why you wanted to speak to me in private." Her voice had a more business-tone.
The warrior nodded. "Yes," he mewed, leading the she-cat into the den. "Much more."

The silvery she-cat paused at the sight of her dead mentor. He looked so peaceful, like he might have been sleeping. But there was no rise and fall of his flank, no whisker twitches or paw flicks as he hunted something in his sleep. Jayfeather was gone.
"Oh, Jayfeather," she mewed softly, lightly touching his gray paw with her own white tipped paw.
Shadowspot remained quiet as she took her moment. He sat in the corner patiently, but he kept glancing to the entrance nervously.
Mistpaw finally looked up - but not at Shadowspot. "What then, Shadowspot. What of my mentor."
The warrior wrapped his tail around his paws. "The clan - Daystar, Dewdrop, none of them - know how he died."
"Greencough," the she-cat murmured, taking a whiff.
Shadowspot nodded. "Yes, I know. And now you know."
The tom's tone made the she-cat turn to look at him. "But you haven't told the others; you never will. And you don't want me to tell, either." The warrior nodded to her. "You're asking me to lie - why?"
"Because Mudblood should not be in with DewClan - we need to preserve our clan."
Mistpaw's eyes narrowed. "You want to frame them." The tom nodded again. The she-cat thought about the tom's words, how very treacherous yet filled with the brightest of intentions they were. "This, Shadowspot," she mewed, "can only lead to darkness. You know this." She knew the presence of Mudblood would be DewClan's ruin.
"I know." The tom met her green gaze levelly. Mistpaw looked down at Jayfeather's body, taking in how normal he looked, how peaceful and undisturbed.
"Do what you must." She turned away from the body, heading for the exit.
"Mistpaw," Shadowspot called. The future medicine cat stopped. "Before he died, Jayleaf had one more prophecy. He said, 'the one who holds the flame will burn the thorns.'"
Mistpaw nodded. "Thank you for tell me, Shadowspot. May StarClan stay by your side." She left the den.

Shadowspot, now alone, looked down at the body of Jayleaf. StarClan - forgive me.
He began to tear the dead flesh of the medicine cat.
