Kits Gone Hunting

Leafstar padded away from the camp with Spirekit, her daughter, and Nightkit behind her. It was timefor her to see if they could be apprenticed yet. "Kits. Pay attention now."

Blazefall was close nearby, with three mice and a thrush.He was content on how much he caught, but was afraid he might drop them,soiling them.He continued his way back to the camp,unaware of how close the rest of the "clan" were.

OOC: the second I saw the name of the topic, I thought it was Kits Gone Wild.....

IC: Spirekit close behind Leafstar was in awe of the territory around her. She had always dreamed about getting out of the camp, and now, here she was. She purred softly to herself and turned over to Blazefall, who had just padded in the opposite direction. " As you were saying?" she added softly, possibly just to herself to how quiet it was.

Nightkit dipped her head, "Yes, Leafstar?" She murmured.

"You two have learned to hunt from Blazefall and I. You are going to show me if you are ready to be apprentices. You have until Sunhigh to bring back prey enough for the clan." Leafstar mewed. "Starting now."

a grin grew on Spirekit's face as she instantly sprang away to the east. She had always noticed that the warriors had brought squirrels from the east. She was going to find out herself.
With small leaps from stones to stone, to she thought was silent and quick, she went forward.
To the right of her, she noticed a mouse scampering across a small root. She began a small crouch, her legs not adjusted for a pounce. But without noticing, she sprang. The pity it wasn't far enough to reach the mouse and it ran away, as if it's squeaking mocking her, Spirekit went onward.

Nightkit, likewise, sprang away in eagerness. Hold on, Nightkit, she told herself silently, an apprentice doesn't act like that. She forced herself to calm down and to open her senses. A sparrow landed nearby, and Nightkit's heart leaped. She crouched, belly almost touching the ground, and stalked closer and closer...
She wasn't quick enough, the bird already finished scratching and was taking flight. Now or never! She leaped up, and caught the sparrow's wings.

Nightkit sighed when it flew off. Well, at least I got some of its feathers, she almost laughed if she didn't hear the rustle in the bushes. It's okay, time to try again.

A mouse scampered almost right in front of her. She barely had time to swipe her paw and send it flying. She took off after it, and was surprised when she realized that the mouse didn't survive the impact of the flight. My first prey! Wait, now what do I do? She sat down on her haunches and thought hard.

Leafstar watched Nightkit's progress from the trees, like a squirrel. She saw her hit the mouse, and almost laughed.

[Rainpelt]

Hmm...maybe I should bury this, and come back for it later. She looked around, and decided to bury her prey by a bolder. She dragged it over and dug a hole. Once finished, she dropped it in with satisfaction. Must remember where I buried this, though.

Leafstar smiled, then bounded off noisily through the trees, cursing herself for not being stealthier.

Nightkit's head jerked up, she was sure she heard something. What if it was a fox, or a badger? She had heard horrible stories of those animals taking many cats' lives. She took off the opposite direction, determined to find at least one more prey to bring back.

Crouching in the undergrowth, Leafstar watched her daughter's progress hunting... then sneezed violently.

[NKninja]

Spirekit by now had only caught a small sparrow. With her luck, she could be done by sunset.
For a moment, she heard the sudden sound from the undergrowth, She paused as she noticed the bramble bush behind her rustle abruptly after.
Softly, she peaked her head around the brambles to notice another mouse was practically right under her nose. In shock, she paused her breathing and stretched her neck enough for her teeth to go around the whole mouse. With a small crack, she had caught her second piece of prey.

Remembering where she put her piece of prey, she padded back in the direction of camp, seeing if she could see any more prey before she gathered it all.

Leafstar purred quietly. "Good girl." She whispered, following silently.

Spirekit, with small luck hearing or seeing anything from her surroundings, she raised her snout and opened her mouth. To her curiosity, she noticed the scent of her mother. Ignoring it, she padded where she smelled the most fresh scent. To her surprise, she saw the small pelt of Nightkit when she had turned to the corner of a tree. " How's hunting?" She purred.

Nightkit grinned. "Not bad! You?"

Leafstar dropped from the trees just behind the kits. "Good job. You passed."

[Rainpelt]

Nightkit, for the second time that day, felt her head pound in excitement. She was going to become an apprentice! Now I wonder who my mentor will be. She thought, her mouth still stretching from ear-to-ear. Whoever it is, I will be the best warrior RoseClan has ever known!

Leafstar purred. The first new apprentices. Time to train some warriors. "Let's get back to camp."

IC: Nightkit squealed, then caught herself. She nodded mature-like and fell in step behind Leafstar.
